Job Description: Senior Electrical and Automation Designer
You are an electrical and automation engineer with a solid background in electrical and automation
design of heavy-duty equipment primarily used in the aggregate and mining industry. Successful
applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge of designing for outdoor mining environments with an
attention to safety within automation principles
Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada – near Hwy. #410 and Courtney Park Drive

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Create, develop and implement electrical design solutions based on customer requirements
and/or specifications in a 2D (AutoCAD) environment.
• Develop electrical design solutions and evaluate based on expected performance,
manufacturability, assembly and serviceability.
• Determine best electrical engineering/design practices and communicate with peers.
• Design and detail Power, Control, and Input/Output solutions in accordance with Thor design
philosophies and client requirements
• Effectively communicate designs through excellent shop drawing layouts including but not
limited to Power/Control Schematic, I/O Schematic, Cable Schedule
• Liaise with engineering, purchasing, sales, suppliers, sub-contractors and customers.
• Work with Electrical Engineering Manager to develop new standards and processes of work that
are inline with electrical code and accepted industry standards.
• Manage drawing packages and project documentation including BOM’s, operating manuals.
• Carry out technical investigations of bid specifications and provide engineering support to sales
team to effectively quote a required proposal.
• Assist with any electrical related updates regarding plant improvements
• Where required travel to customer locations, both domestic and international, to assist with
commissioning and troubleshooting.
Qualification and Experience:
• MUST have 15 years experience in field related to heavy duty machine electrical and
automation design.
• MUST have in-depth knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
• MUST be proficient with AutoCAD (2018 and up) with a minimum 15 years’ experience.
• MUST be able to program in Schneider or Allen Bradley PLC softwares
• MUST be able to program an HMI
• MUST have hands on experience with building, laying out, and wiring of an electrical panel
• Experienced with communication with EPCM firms related to specification requirements.
• Must have excellent time management skills.
• Highly motivated, organized, results oriented, problem solver, decision-maker.
• Proficient in all MS Office applications (primarily Excel & Word)
• Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
• Bachelors Degree in an Electrical or Automation discipline
